How Does Arbitrage Betting Work at Non GamStop Bookmakers?

Initially, it is important to know that arbitrage betting is not always an option. In fact, it is actually rather a rarity in practice. In practice, it actually means that you choose to place bets on the same match with different non GamStop bookmakers. However, one bookmaker may, for example, have designated player or team A as favorite while the other bookmaker has chosen player or team B. This difference is an essential fact when it comes to arbitrage betting. Designating a particular favorite has important consequences for the odds you can enjoy.

The above obviously sounds quite complex. However, it doesn't have to be that complex at all. Let us give a tennis match as an example. We quote the legendary players Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. In a head-to-head match, non GamStop bookmaker A labeled Nadal as the favorite. He assigns him an odd of 1.5. According to the non GamStop bookmaker, it is not likely that Djokovic will take home the win on, for example, the clay court of Roland Garros. He is therefore assigned an odds of 2.5. Then, you look at what is on offer at other bookmakers. For example, another non GamStop bookmaker may still give the advantage to the Serbian tennis player. He is assigned an odds of 1.75 while Nadal is given an odds of 2.25.

The above situation is a textbook example of how arbitrage betting exactly works. For example, by betting ten euros on a Djokovic victory at bookmaker A and placing 10 euros on a Nadal victory at Bookmaker B, you always have a profit. There is only one certainty and that is that one of the two players will ultimately win the match. After all, in the case of a tennis match, there can be no question of a draw. This is of course possible in a team sport such as a football match. Applying arbitrage betting to football matches is also possible, but is actually even more difficult.

What Do You Need to Do Arbitrage Betting?

In the example cited, we have kept our bet relatively limited, namely to only 10 euros. In practice, it goes without saying that arbitrage betting involves playing with huge amounts of money. This is of course due to the fact that you actually cannot lose. You must keep in mind that in order to apply this type of bet, two essential elements are required. This concerns the following:

  1. You bet on a competition where there must always be a winner;
  2. Your odds must be more than 100 percent of your bet;

In practice, a distinction is made between pure and impure arbitration. In the first case there are purely competitions from which a winner must emerge. So think of a tennis match. In the second case, there may be a match in which an undecided end result (such as a draw in a football match) is also possible. Moreover, it is crucial that the odds on both sides are more than 100 percent of the stake. Is that not the case and are they clocking in at 100 percent, for example? Then you can win back the maximum amount of money you have wagered. Placing a bet then obviously makes no sense.

Is Arbitrage Betting Actually Allowed?

For many years now, a lot has been said and written about arbitrage betting. In practice, non GamStop bookmakers would like you to believe that placing such a bet is prohibited.

The most important characteristic of a bet is that the outcome must be a “gamble”. If you make arbitrage bets, this is obviously not the case.

After all, you know with certainty that you will make a profit with one or the other non GamStop bookmaker. However, it is certainly not illegal. The law therefore does not state anything about not being able to place such a bet. Having said this, this does not mean that it is turned a blind eye.

Many players have chosen to engage in arbitrage betting over the years and have suffered the consequences. From a certain point on they were therefore confronted with restrictions on their account. Initially, players suspect that in practice non GamStop bookmakers do not share data with each other. However, that is indeed the case. Moreover, it should not be forgotten that different non GamStop bookmakers are part of the same company or a collective of companies. When you place an arbitrage bet, there is a very good chance that sooner or later you will be confronted with a number of restrictions. Despite the fact that it is not illegal, it goes without saying that non GamStop bookmakers would rather not see you guaranteed a profit.

When Is it an Impure Bet?

As mentioned earlier on this page, we make a distinction between pure arbitrage betting on the one hand and impure arbitrage betting on the other.

Tennis in particular is considered an excellent sport for arbitrage betting. This is not only because there are only two players involved, but also because the end result of the match cannot be a draw. In cycling, for example, there may be no arbitrage betting at all. This would mean that an odds of more than 100 percent would have to be offered by a non GamStop bookmaker for each cyclist involved. Not only is that impossible, it would also not be interesting at all from a financial point of view.

For football, the matches would in a certain sense be eligible for arbitration bets. However, this is not pure arbitrage. This is due to the fact that there are not two possible outcomes for the bet you are about to place, but three. Besides the fact that one of the teams can win, the match can also end in a draw. With such a form of arbitrage betting, non GamStop bookmakers usually ignore. This is mainly because in the event of a draw you can still lose your bet. In this case, there is no longer a hundred percent sure bet.

How Interesting Exactly Is an Arbitrage Bet?

The above actually seems like a rather unnecessary question. If you as a player can place a bet with a guaranteed win, it goes without saying that this can only be described as interesting… right? Yes and no.

As mentioned above, you should take into account that arbitrage betting carries the risk that you may encounter a number of restrictions with your favorite bookmakers. That can of course undermine your profit potential considerably. However, this is not all.

In addition to the above, it is also true that this form of placing bets is very labor intensive. You have to invest a lot of time and effort in comparing the bets and odds with the different non GamStop bookmakers. You must of course decide for yourself whether you want to make these efforts or not. In any case, it is clear that there are certainly some disadvantages associated with placing a “profit guaranteed bet”.

Should You Also Apply Arbitrage Betting Yourself or Not?

Whether you should apply arbitrage betting yourself or not is of course entirely up to you. Throughout this page it has become clear that you can make a lot of profit with pure arbitrage betting. In principle, this is a risk-free bet. That sounds like music to the ears of people who want to place a bet, but it is an absolute thorn in the side for the non GamStop casinos.

In practice, the latter often do everything they can to ensure that placing such bets is noticed by various parties. If you occasionally engage in arbitrage betting, you will find that your bookmaker will probably not have much of a problem with it.

As mentioned earlier on this page, a distinction is always made between pure and impure arbitrage betting. In the latter case, for example in sports competitions, you still have a risk of losing, but the bookmakers turn a ignore it. The chance that you will fail when placing such a bet is therefore extremely small.Also read our review Oddschecker.
